Prof. Abena Animwaa Yeboah-Banin, Dean of the School of Information and Communication Studies, has been appointed to the Board of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).

Prof. Yeboah-Banin, also an Associate Professor of Communication, joins the newly constituted GBC Board chaired by Francis Mills Robertson.

Other members of the Board include Bashiratu Kamal, Dr Ahmed Dawale Mohammed, Dr Jacob Ibrahim Abudu, Hawa Muhammad Awwal, Nathaniel Leslie Lomo-Mainoo and Emmanuel Kumadey.

Her appointment is a significant recognition of her expertise and experience in communication and related fields. It also provides an opportunity for her to contribute her academic and professional knowledge to the governance and strategic development of Ghana's national broadcaster.

Prof. Yeboah-Banin's appointment is particularly relevant to the mandate of SICS, which brings together the Department of Information Studies and the Department of Communication Studies. The School is committed to advancing scholarship, professional practice and research in information and communication.

Through her academic career, Prof. Yeboah-Banin has contributed to teaching, research, postgraduate supervision and academic leadership within Communication Studies. Her work has also engaged with contemporary issues in media, communication, digital technologies and public communication.

Her new role on the GBC Board further extends this expertise into national service. It comes at a time when Ghana's media environment continues to evolve rapidly, creating new opportunities and challenges for public service broadcasting.

The School is particularly proud to see one of its academic leaders bring her expertise to an institution with such an important role in Ghana's media and communication landscape.
