Dr. Margaret Ivy Amoakohene, who is currently the Head of the Department of Communication Studies, University of Ghana and a senior lecturer who teaches Public Relations and Qualitative Research at the Department, has been appointed to the Council of State, the constitutionally mandated advisory body to the President.
The Council is made up of distinguished Ghanaians with a blend of backgrounds as contained in Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.
Dr. Margaret Amoakohene was a former High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana to Canada. She has also held many positions in both the University of Ghana and in Ghanaian national life serving on several boards and committees including the National Media Commission (NMC), the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) and actively participating in national discussions and debates.
Dr. Amoakohene holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Mass Communication from the University of Leicester, England; a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree and a Post-graduate Diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Ghana.
With her vast knowledge and experience, news of her appointment comes as no surprise especially to people who know her and have worked with her. Her colleagues at the Department of Communication Studies believe that Dr. Margaret Amoakohene is very competent to serve in the capacity of a member of the Council of State.
