Visa information
Citizens of ECOWAS countries, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Singapore, South Africa, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, and Zimbabwe do not require a visa to visit Ghana. Citizens of all other countries require a visa obtainable from any Ghanaian Embassy or Consulate close to them.
You will also be required to have Yellow fever vaccination. Remember to carry along the original vaccination certificate as this is required to enter Ghana.
Airport and Travel
All international travels are through Kotoka International Airport, located centrally in the capital; Accra. Kotoka International Airport is about 15 minutes’ drive from University of Ghana, the Venue for the conference. A welcome desk will be set up on the 6th and 7th of November to receive and guide participants upon arrival.
Airport Pick up will be available on request for participants arriving on 6th November. Kindly send an email to the conference organizers with your arrival details ahead of time to allow us to plan for pick-ups. Some hotels also offer pick-up services and we encourage participants with such options to use the services.
Metered taxis are also available in addition to Uber services. A ride from the airport to the University of Ghana may cost about GHC 20 ($4).
Accommodation
Arrangements are being made with a number of hotels located close to the University of Ghana. Participants are encouraged to use these due to safety and traffic considerations. Participants would be required to book directly with their choice of Hotel once these arrangements are completed and the hotels advertised on this website.
Conference venue
All conference-related events will be held at the new Economics Department Conference Facility. It is located on the main University campus at Legon.
Languages
The official language of Ghana is English and would be used as the mode of communication during the conference. Ghana hosts many other languages but in the city of Accra the majority of locals can communicate with participants in English if need be.
Climate
Ghana has a tropical climate with temperature of between 21-32 °C (70-90°F) generally.
Currency
The Ghana Cedi is the currency for exchange. There are several forex bureaus in Accra. Most bank ATMS would also allow withdrawals enables by Visa or Master Card.
Electricity and connectivity. The standard voltage is 230V with a standard frequency of 50 Hz. A plug adapter and a step-down transformer will be necessary when your appliances use a lower voltage and/or another type of plug.
Internet connection is widely available in the capital city via telecom network operated sim cards.
Insurance and Health
Participants should procure insurance in their home country to cover their journey. Vacinations for hepatitis A and B, tetanus, polio, typhoid, meningitis and diphtheria are also highly recommended.
There is a risk of contracting malaria in Ghana. Measures to prevent mosquito bites are advised and include the following: wearing long-sleeved clothing, using mosquito repellent, and sleeping with a mosquito net or with the air-conditioning running. The use of antimalarial medication is recommended as well.

The University of Ghana School of Information and Communication Studies and its partners are not liable for losses if the conference is cancelled due to a force majeure incident. We are also not liable for losses which may be incurred by the participants during the conference. Participants are responsible for their safety.
